Summaron 35mm f3.5 (L)
Summaron 35mm f/3.5, Leica screw mount. A classic wide-angle lens for Barnack cameras. Designated by Leitz as SOONC, it was manufactured in 1951. It features a 4-group 6-element configuration, using a double Gauss design and a rotating helicoid. Marked in feet.
Introduced in 1946 as the successor to the Elmar 35mm f/3.5, it continues to be a popular lens known for its high resolution and rich rendering. When shooting wide open, it delivers precise center sharpness and natural vignetting, creating a distinctive atmosphere. A Summaron with good glass condition also exhibits excellent color rendition.
Although slightly taller than the Elmar 35mm, its slim and compact barrel provides exceptional maneuverability. Suitable for use with Barnack Leica cameras and equally well-suited for those who prefer shooting with digital cameras.
Filters are the same A36 screw-in type as the Elmar 35mm and 50mm lenses, and the FIOLA hood fits. The original hood, FOOKH, is compatible with both the Elmar 35mm and Summaron 35mm lenses.
Near the base of the lens barrel, there are minor abrasions, but otherwise, it is in excellent condition, with the chrome plating shining beautifully. The chrome plating from this era of Leitz lenses is truly high-quality.
Fully serviced in April 2024, the operation of the aperture and helicoid rings is exceptionally smooth as usual. Rangefinder coupling is precise, and focusing is excellent.
There are very shallow wiping marks on the front element and minor coating imperfections on the edges of the middle element, but these are unlikely to affect photography. Test results were also excellent.
This A36 Summaron lens is ready for practical use and will provide a pleasant shooting
