Nikkor-S.C 5cm f1.4 in Leica screw mount.
This is the later version with a black-painted aperture ring, commonly known as the black band version. Distance scale in feet.
It was supplied for domestic Leica copies such as Leotax. The optical construction is the same as the 50mm f1.4 for Nikon rangefinder cameras, a Sonnar-type design.
Rangefinder coupling is maintained down to approximately 3.5 feet (about 1 meter). By extending the helicoid further, close-up photography down to approximately 1.5 feet (about 45 cm) becomes possible. This close-focus range is not rangefinder-coupled, so focusing must be done by scale or live view, making it quite practical in the digital age.
At wide open aperture, the rendering is very soft with noticeable flare, but stopping down two to three stops results in a dramatic increase in sharpness. This makes it an enjoyable lens with a wide range of expressive qualities.
There are slight scuff marks on the lens barrel base and helicoid. The infinity lock pin shows some loss of plating, but overall the lens, including the black band area, shows minimal signs of use and presents a clean appearance.
Fully overhauled in 2025. Thanks to meticulous servicing, all operations such as the aperture ring and helicoid are smooth, with perfect rangefinder coupling.
The glass shows a few faint cleaning marks on the front element, but they have no impact on actual image quality. There are no signs of haze or fungus, and the optics remain clear and crisp. Test shots also yielded excellent results.
Comes with the original front cap.
