Nikkor-H 5cm f2 in Leica screw mount. Made by Nippon Kogaku, this lens was supplied for Japanese Leica copies such as Leotax.
It is a Sonnar-type design with 3 groups and 6 elements, distance scale in feet. This example is the later version known as the black band model, featuring a black-finished aperture ring that gives it a sharper appearance. Filter size is 40.5mm.
The helicoid has a long extension, allowing close focusing down to about 45 cm (rangefinder coupling works down to 1 m). On digital Leica cameras with live view, this feature is particularly useful.
At full aperture it produces a gentle rendering with a clear core to the image, while stopping down by one stop delivers sharp lines. A very enjoyable lens to use.
The exterior is in excellent condition, showing no signs of use and retaining plenty of the atmosphere of a new lens. Since many Leica-mount Nikkors are often found heavily used, this is a particularly welcome piece for those seeking a clean example. The black band paint is also beautifully preserved.
Fully overhauled in August 2025, with the aperture and helicoid now offering the characteristically smooth operation. Rangefinder coupling is perfectly accurate.
Matching its fine exterior, the glass is clear and free from haze, with coatings on all surfaces well preserved. No noticeable cleaning marks are present, giving superb glass condition that allows you to enjoy the lens’s true rendering.
Comes with a two-piece screw-in original hood designed to hold Series 6 filters, a Series 6 filter holder, a 40.5 mm UV filter, front and rear caps, and a leather case.
