Olympus Zuiko 40mm f2.8. This lens, manufactured by Olympus Optical Co., Ltd., is the only Leica screw mount lens they produced. It was introduced in 1950 and was sold until around 1952, when Nikkor and Canon 35mm lenses emerged and took over. It features rangefinder coupling, a 4-group 5-element design, coated optics, and is marked in feet. Compact and weighing a measured 132g.
At the time, it was primarily sold through tax-free sales to occupying forces and others. Its 40mm focal length, closer to wide-angle, and reliable imaging capabilities were praised, establishing it as a highly regarded semi-standard lens.
It comes with a sturdy, heavy dedicated finder (measured at 48g), original front cap, and a leather case. Due to being manufactured during the Allied occupation of Japan, the leather case is stamped with "MADE IN OCCUPIED JAPAN."
There is slight dulling of the chrome plating, but no noticeable scratches or distortions; it has a rather clean appearance.
In 2024, the lens was cleaned by a specialist, the helicoid was greased, and the aperture blades were cleaned. The finder was also cleaned, providing a clear and sharp view.
When held up to strong LED light, there are very minor coating blemishes visible only upon close inspection, and extremely shallow wiping marks on the middle element, which should have minimal impact on actual shooting. The results of practical tests were also good.

With its user-friendly 40mm angle of view, adequate f/2.8 brightness, compact build, and solid central imaging performance, it is quite an appealing lens.
