Leica Type A with the new close-focus Elmar. Serial number in the 20,000 range, manufactured in 1930. The product code from Leitz is LEICA. Known internationally as the Leica I or IA. The distance markings are in feet, and it features a large tripod screw.
This Leica Type A is a beautifully preserved example with a charming appearance. All parts, including the vulcanite, are original from its 1930 manufacture. It shows natural signs of use but is overall in excellent condition, having been well cared for.
Though nearly a century old, this Leica has been refreshed with an overhaul and remains fully functional for shooting enjoyment. It offers not only practical use but also a rewarding experience simply from handling or admiring it, embodying the unique appeal of the Type A.
There are some black paint scuffs on the top of the viewfinder and signs of use around the tripod hole on the bottom plate, but otherwise, there are no dents or dings, and the appearance is clean. The nickel plating shows minimal wear, and the silver inlay is well-preserved.
The body and FODIS rangefinder were both overhauled in September 2024. All functions are very smooth, with excellent operational feel. The new Elmar lens shows no significant cleaning marks and is in good condition. The viewfinder is clear and sharp.
The FODIS rangefinder, which has feet markings matching the body, has had its half-mirror replaced and provides an exceptionally clear view.
Included are the FODIS rangefinder, two magazines in an aluminum case, the original cap, and the set case.
