According to Peter Kitchingman's book Canon M39 Rangefinder Lenses 1939-1971, this lens falls under Type 3. It features a chrome barrel and a 6 elements in 4 groups optical design. The focusing helicoid is marked in meters, and the filter thread is 40mm screw-in.
Among Canon's 28mm lenses for rangefinders, this one has the largest maximum aperture. Despite that, it maintains a very compact form, offering excellent portability. The rear element protrusion is minimal as well.
