Alpa 9d. Silver Body. A Swiss-made eye-level SLR camera by Pignons S.A. The third TTL camera ever introduced in the world. Among Alpa’s high-end, small-scale production lineup, the 9d was the most widely sold model. A total of 4,391 units were produced in silver finish, while 665 units were made in black. Pignons' product code for the silver version is DABODY, and for the black version, NORDABODY. The standard lens for this model is the legendary Macro-Switar.
One of Alpa’s greatest appeals lies not only in its meticulously crafted, high-end design and premium build quality but also in its diverse selection of lenses. Since Alpa did not produce its own lenses, it sourced optics from some of the world’s finest manufacturers.
These included Kern (Switzerland), Spectros (Switzerland), Old Delft (Netherlands), Schneider (Germany), Angénieux (France), Kinoptik (France), Kilfitt (Germany), as well as Chinon and Asahi Optical (Japan). This remarkable variety of lenses is a defining characteristic of the Alpa system.
There are areas of silver paint loss around the strap lugs and edges, as well as scuff marks on the bottom plate. The transparent plastic part of the film advance knob has a fine crack. However, the crinkle finish on the pentaprism is well preserved, making this a relatively clean example of the 9d.
Overhauled in January 2025, the shutter, film advance, and other mechanisms operate smoothly. The light meter functions within an acceptable range, but due to its complex design—utilizing reverse incident light from the eyepiece for exposure adjustment—the meter needle may shift depending on the alignment of your eye with the eyepiece. It is recommended to familiarize yourself with the correct positioning to achieve accurate exposure readings.
For the battery, please use a 1.5V cell without a step-down adapter.
